Canopy is an award-winning architecture and planning firm based in Chicago, focused on social impact and community-centered design. Recent work includes Encuentro Square, an AIA Design Excellence Award winning affordable development; Starling, a CNDA award winning office multi-purpose community hub; and Jigzibik, Chicago's first indigenous inclusive housing and cultural center. The Canopy studio occupies Suite 200 of The Equitable Building at 180 W. Washington Street, a 1927 Beaux-Arts building, originally built for a bank. Treating the studio's renovation as an extension of its own design approach, Canopy uncovered original bank details hidden for decades and paired them with modern elements, creating a studio that honors the building's past while looking ahead. Visitors will have the chance to explore the building's history and engage with the architectural practice's current and upcoming work through project drawings, photos, models, renderings, and current material selections. Architects will be on site.
