Windy City Bird Lab at Open House Chicago

Windy City Bird Lab · West Loop
Free ↗

The Windy City Bird Lab is housed in a corner of a 1964 building constructed by the Respiratory Health Association (RHA), then the Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago and Cook County, and originally founded as the Chicago Tuberculosis Institute. The Institute was a key partner in stewarding what would become the North Park Village campus, including the Nature Center, which is a crucial habitat for migratory birds. Windy City Bird Lab currently occupies a small section of what was previously a dialysis center. Visitors will have a chance to see what it takes to convert a building like this and fitting it with additional power and water infrastructure. Visitors may explore the Lab to learn about efforts to study and advocate for local bird populations, while viewing details of the adaptive reuse.
