Privacy Policy

Nomo is a Chicago events discovery app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the product needs, we don't sell it, and you can see it or delete it yourself, in the app, anytime.

What we collect

• Account info. Your name and either an email address or a phone number, used to create and sign in to your account. With Google or Apple sign-in we receive your name and email from them, nothing else. Phone sign-in sends a one-time code via our SMS provider; we store the number, never the code.
• Preferences. The interests, neighborhoods, and accounts you pick so we can build your feed.
• Optional demographics. Age range and gender are optional, are used to keep age-restricted events pointed at the right people and to understand who Nomo serves, and can be changed or removed anytime in Account settings. Partners only ever see anonymous, aggregated numbers, never your individual answers.
• Your activity in the app. The accounts you follow, the events you save, mark as going to, hide or get tickets for, and how you browse: which events we showed you and where in the list, which ones you opened and roughly how long you read them, shares, calendar adds, directions, map taps, and the filters and searches you use. We use it for one thing: putting the right events in front of you. It is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never follows you to other apps. You can turn this off anytime in Account settings → Personalization. That stops the collection and deletes what we already have. We delete the detailed records after 180 days, keeping only anonymous day-by-day totals per event.
• Push tokens. If you turn notifications on, we store the anonymous device token Apple issues so we can send the alerts you asked for. Turning notifications off in the app or in iOS settings stops them.
• Searches. Search terms you enter, kept two ways: an anonymous copy with no link to you, so we can see what Chicago is looking for and fill the gaps, and, while personalization is on, a copy on your account so your results get better.
• Technical logs. Standard server logs (including IP address) kept briefly for security and debugging by our hosting provider.
• Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how Nomo is used: pages visited, time on page, taps and scrolling, rough device info, approximate location (city-level, derived from your network address), and session recordings that show how people move through the app. Recordings mask what you type. Sign-in fields like phone, email, password, and verification codes are hidden before anything leaves your device, and we never send either tool your name, email, or phone number. Neither is configured for advertising: no ads features, no cross-site tracking. Turning off Account settings → Personalization also turns both off on that device.
• Location. If you use "Nearby" or the map, your location is used on your device to sort events by distance. It is not sent to us.
• Share your location (iPhone app, off unless you turn it on). With your permission (location set to Always, with Precise Location on), your iPhone notices when you stop somewhere, even when Nomo is closed. Only a stop of 10 minutes to 6 hours within about 150 meters of a venue listed on Nomo is sent to us; anything else, like home or work, stays on your phone. We match the stop to that venue and keep only which venue and when, never your coordinates. We use it to recommend places you'll like, and to count how many Nomo members visit a venue. Venues only ever see totals of five or more people, never who. Nomo never shows other members the places you go. We keep visits for 12 months, and turning this off in Account settings → Share your location deletes them.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal data.
• We do not use advertising trackers or third-party ad networks.
• We never give venues, hosts, or any partner your name, contact info, or device tokens. If we ever run clearly-labeled sponsored placements, partners receive aggregate reporting only.
• We do not post anything to your social accounts.

How event data is sourced

Events shown in Nomo are aggregated from public sources (venue sites, ticketing platforms, and public social posts). We link back to the original listing for tickets and details.

Service providers

We use Vercel (hosting), Neon (managed Postgres for account and activity data), Twilio (SMS sign-in codes), Apple (push notifications and optional sign-in), Google (optional sign-in and Google Analytics), and Microsoft (Clarity usage analytics). These providers process data only to run Nomo.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. Deleting your account removes your profile, saves, follows, and preferences immediately and permanently; anonymous push device records are unlinked and expire on their own. Visits recorded while you share your location are deleted after 12 months, or at once when you stop sharing. Server logs rotate on our hosting provider's standard short schedule.

Your choices

• See your data: Account settings → Your data → Download my data.
• Delete your account: Account settings → Your data → Delete my account, or see the deletion page.
• Edit or remove demographics: Account settings → About you.
• Notifications: toggle in the app or in system settings.
• Location: Account settings → Share your location → Stop sharing turns it off and deletes your visits. Setting Nomo's location to anything but Always in iPhone Settings also stops it.

Children

Nomo is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 to create an account. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 16 we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy; we will revise the date above when we do.
